To be completely honest, I’ve never owned a high end flat iron in my life. Never owned a CHI, Paul Mitchell, GHD, HAI, Solia, Sedu, T3, Etc. I discovered flat irons back in 6th grade and my first iron was a cheap Conair Flat Iron with removable plates (there were changeable plates to crimp your hair as well – anyone had that iron as well?? HA!) Sally’s Beauty Supply became my favorite place to purchase flat irons from every time my current one would break. I’d usually end up with Hot Tools, Helen of Troy, Remington or Jibere. None of them were really anything to brag about, and I really don’t know why till now I’ve never invested in an expensive iron.
When NuMe gave me the opportunity to try out one of their irons, I was thrilled to have the chance to try a “high-end” flat iron.
  • The iron itself is lightweight and easy to handle.
  • It heats up quickly – in less than a minute.
  • It has a swivel cord that doesn’t tangle up or get in the way.
  • The plates are rounded, so I’m not only limited to straightening my hair, but I can curl as well.
Well, I’ve been using this flat iron every week for about two months now. There are several pros and a few cons.
Like I already mentioned, the iron is very lightweight and easy to handle. The majority of the time, I curl my hair because I don’t like the way I look with stick straight hair. I originally thought this iron would be perfect because of the rounded edges, but I notice when curling my hair, the iron is a bit bulky and awkward – I think if the plates were thinner, curling would be much easier. It does create fantastic curls that hold extremely well throughout the day, night and even sleeping. But, because of the bulkiness, curling with this iron isn’t the easiest thing in the world. I don’t find that the iron smooths through the strand of hair with minimal effort and sometimes if I press too firm, I will have crimps throughout the curl. It glides much easier when I load my hair up with a shine/heat protectant product. I do usually prefer using this iron over a curling iron because my curls will still look great the following day, and with a curling iron my hair is usually completely flat the following day. I do agree with the fact that it makes my hair shiny. After I curl my hair, it never ever looks dull. One big disappointment though was that I was hoping the iron would save me time compared to my cheap $35 Remington Flat Iron. I figured because it’s a better quality iron, a single pass through a 1″ strand of hair would be all I need for sleek, straight results. But, I still need to do a few passes though each strand of hair even on the highest heat setting. And, I always have to use the highest heat setting because my hair is extremely thick and curly. For those of you with fine hair, this would work phenomenal on you, but because I have such thick hair I’m not that impressed.
I do think this iron is pretty expensive at $145, but it does come with a 5 year warranty, which in my opinion is very good considering flat irons usually only last a couple of years (max) with daily use. I think this iron is better for those with fine and normal hair. Of course it will work well on thick hair too, but it will require a little extra time (and patience). I love the fact that after I use the iron my hair is shiny and very soft. I haven’t once fried my hair or have that yucky burnt smell in my hair that some flat irons may leave behind. It also doesn’t catch my hair between the plates and pull any strands out.
Overall, I think it’s a good flat iron, and I will continue using it until I feel it isn’t as effective. But for my particular hair needs, I would try venturing into a different brand once it comes time to purchase a new iron.

  1. I have thick, curly hair & I have been using a Jilbere Tourmaline Series flat iron for over 6 years now and it still works great & straightens wonderfully. It's $74.99 or $62.99 w/ a Sally Beauty Supply card. It it totally worth every penny!

  2. If you have thick hair, get the Silhouette by Nume, the couture is really better for those with fine hair. If you dont care about having adjustable temperature settings then you could go for the fashionista by Nume. Personally for super-thick hair Silhouette's the way to go.

  3. I have long curly hair and you mentioned above this iron heats up quickly and iron is light in weight and i can straight my hair and make different style by this iron .
